Therapy

Why would I need Therapy?

Throughout life all people face challenges. Some are interpersonally, with family or friends or with a significant others. Many times people face challenge alone or do not have adequate support. Other times, the need requires professional help. Acknowledging the need for help is the first huge step.

What happens in Therapy?

Therapy is a wonderful process. It often takes a few sessions to explore the complexity of the situation and to establish trust. Honesty, openness and trust are always critical to the success of the therapeutic process. Coming with an open mind and being willing to be challenged are also important in the process.

Clients often wonder, how long will this take? My approach is one that involves diving in and really trying to get to the heart of the problem. It takes a willingness on the part of my clients to be able go there. But, I believe that if you are willing to go there and work hard, therapy should not necessarly go on indefinitely. There should be progress and change and when this has been achieved it's time to fly. You may fall again and need to come back for a time, and that's never a problem. But... flying is good!

There are clients who struggle with on-going chronic depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions. These clients may be in a slightly different situation as far as duration of therapy. Clients who have long term struggles with mental health often do benefit from on-going therapy. Each case will be different. But, continuing therapy is never viewed as failure.
